Oncology Relaxation Massage
What is this?
A relaxing treatment, using gentler, lighter massage techniques with some ‘still touch’ and breath engagement.
The intention is to create a calm experience for you in a gentle space, in the midst of what can be a big upheaval in one’s life, body & feelings. I like to be quiet during treatments, so that you can fully relax. If you have preferred music instead of mine, this is absolutely welcome - just let me know before.
Your massage will be adapted in small ways to make it safer for people who have current cancer (or previous). Cancer areas, phases, surgical sites, medical ports and areas where touch cannot be tolerated are all taken into account.
Massage directions on the body may have to be adapted and pressures varied depending lymph node removal sites, neuropathy or bruising risks. We can adapt your laying or sitting position to your comfort and keep you properly covered throughout, so that you feel at ease and to help you feel relaxed and at ease. I have experience of cancer patients and their bodies in operating theatres for well over a decade and I most recently cared for one of my parents who passed this Summer from cancer.
Many of my clients go on to live fuller lives again and see me for therapeutic support during period, for others it is a long time journey back and forth before they take a path out. I am happy to be here through all stages of an illness no matter where you are.
Please note:
These sessions do not involve Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage, Lymphoedema management or Scar-work, as these therapies are far more specialist. I recommend that you search a Vodder-trained therapist for that focus and not therapists who have carried out a two day cpd course, as this does happen sometimes. Deep pressure work is also contraindicated for oncology massage.

Consultation Form
I will send you this more detailed consultation form ahead of your session
Please complete this as soon as you can, to help me gain a fuller picture of how to prepare and for us both to feel at ease. For very complex cases, or palliative phases, I would be happy to call you to discuss how we can perform a comfortable massage if you feel concerned.

Before your treatment
1) If you do not have a medical permission email for massage from your specialist, then I will ask you to sign a disclaimer form that you are happy to proceed without it.
2) Please check that your platelet counts are suitable for massage.
For booking oncology treatments
A 75 minute first appointment is preferred (but not necessary), then either 60 / 90 / 120 minute treatments are available.
Longer treatments may include combinations like reflexology for example, or extra time on focus areas.
I am not a cancer expert. Like you; I am gradually finding out more as we go through experience and how to navigate gentle, restorative treatments with each person & their individual journey. What you tell me about your drugs, side effects, treatments is always helpful for me, but also for others going forwards.
I learn from you and welcome you.
